Katie L. Thompson writes this.
Summer 2007. Sigh. The Summer of Failure.
Download: Driving With the Windows Down Summer 2007 - A Mixed CD
I had originally made this cd at the beginning of June for my Montreal trip and it's still in heavy rotation in my car. It's sort of become the soundtrack to my summer so I thought I'd share; let me know what you think because it's become kind of personal to me, you know? I highly recommend burning it and playing it while driving with the windows down. Also worth noting...I switched 3 of the tracks from the original version: All the Holes In the Wall by Birdmonster, Spitting In the Wind by Badly Drawn Boy, and It's Good by Sea Snakes were replaced by tracks 9, 11, and 13. It's better this way. Promise. Oh, yeah. And a bunch of the songs are covers so have fun figuring those out.
01. It's Not Worth Fighting - Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
02. Atlantic City - The Band
03. Our Life Is Not A Movie Or Maybe - Okkervil River
04. Heart It Races - Dr. Dog
05. Mandolin Rain - Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs
06. Winterlight - Roman Candle
07. Let's See What Develops - The Spinto Band
08. When You Were Mine - Casiotone For the Painfully Alone
09. Home In A Boxcar - Hoots and Hellmouth
10. The City Life - Pants Yell!
11. The Desert - Benjy Ferree
12. Heart In A Cage - Chris Thile
13. Tie Me Up God - Sea Snakes
14. Sing One For Me - Jan Smith
15. This Too Shall Pass - Danny Schmidt
16. Black Star - Gillian Welch
17. Waltz of the Tennis Players - Meg Baird
18. Top of the Mountain - Best of Seth
If you like any of the bands, I encourage you to seek them out via internet or otherwise. The ones I know are all nice and awesome and give good hugs.
i kind of have the urge to listen to let's see what develops now. i remember you having me listen to the heart in a cage cover before though...so now i have a strokes urge too. and birdmonster since mentioned. jesus, way to try to get me off track over here! :P
I haven't listened to Birdmonster in forever; I always skip that track in the car b/c it doesn't really fit. Which is why it was omitted.
Oh, how I love me a well-composed mix CD...
Thanks, mama. Am eagerly downloading this little scamp as we speak.
Awesome; let me know what you think. And by the way, I'm based in VA again so if you ever wanna go to a show, holler!
Well, as a rule, any playlist that includes The Band (i.e. some of the folk responsible for my earliest memories of music) automatically wins my respect and adoration. As a whole, your playlist been making me happy for several days running; I have a lovely little queue of CDs-to-Buy - Dr. Dog, Spinto, Casiotone - patiently awaiting paycheck fundage. In the meantime, feel free to post more lovely mixes...? (*cue hopeful puppy eyes*)
Oh, and welcome back to the mother country. :)
Ha! That song is the Band but like....it's the crappy version from the 90's. That song is a cover; a Springsteen song.........but it's so fucking good! I'm a sucker for a mandolin tune so I fell in love with it.
Spinto is a must-have for sure. Start with the latest Dr. Dog -- We All Belong. I'd also recommend you take a listen to the Teeth. My recorded introduction to them was actually via the live show posted on their website
; I listened to that over and over for about a year before I ever bought an album. Of course, the new album is fantastic, though.
Glad you like the mix. To be honest, I only make about 1 or 2 mixes per year because it takes me a really long time to put one together. I'm anal about the songs and the order and the theme, etc.
